ÖGF is the leading non-governmental organisation in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Austria. OGF's mission is based open access to affordable and safe contraception, women's access to safe and legal abortion, and access for all young people to appropriate, supportive and empowering sex education in school.
ÖGF runs services in hospitals which offer information and counselling on all available methods of contraception, and also provides counselling and services relating to sterilisation/vasectomy, abortion, infertility, sexuality and personal relationships. To ensure high standards of service delivery ÖGF also organizes training courses and medical conferences which focus on the actual delivery and provision of sexual and reproductive health services. These services are subsidised by the Austrian Ministry for Health, Family and Youth.
Since several years, ÖGF has focussed mainly on services for adolescents and young people, including telephone help lines, e-mail counselling and a gynaecological services for young women. ÖGF offers training for teachers and other professionals who conduct classes on sexuality, personal relationships, contraception, protection from sexually transmitted diseases etc. ÖGF has also developed and produced a series of resources (posters, leaflets, and an introduction to contraceptives kit) which are specifically designed for use in schools. These services are subsidised by the Ministry for Health, Family and Youth and the Women's Office of the City of Vienna, with both OGF enjoys a close collaborative working relationship.
ÖGF supports and promotes the Platform of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo in 1994. The Cairo Platform of Action highlights the importance of a holistic perspective on sexual and reproductive health and rights, concentrating on individual needs.
ÖGF acts as an advocate for funding which contributes to the implementation of the Programme of Action, targeting, amongst others, the Austrian International Development Cooperation Agency, other Austrian NGOs and parliamentarians in the Austrian and the European Parliament. OGF was also closely involved in the Cairo +5 process, a review of what has been achieved in the five years since ICPD, and also what needs to be done to ensure women, men and young people have access to the services and support they need, both in the developing and the developed world.
ÖGF provides information and briefing materials relating to international reproductive health
programmes, and launches the United Nations Populations Fund's State of the World
Population report every year in Vienna. Related conferences and meetings are regularly
organized by OGF. ÖGF is an affiliated
